Through hard work and headwinds, cycling has given me everything I know — travel, a career, a strong body and ultimately, a sense of purpose
— Ryan Correy

Bikepack Canada was started in 2016 by adventure cyclist Ryan Correy, who passed away in April 2018 at just 35 years old.

Ryan was known for his boundless curiosity, enthusiasm, and thirst for adventure, which began at the age of 13 with his first of a series of cross-Canada bike trips with his father, Peter. In the years following, Ryan embarked on countless grand journeys — the gruelling Race Across America, a then-record setting ride from Alaska to Argentina, a 6-day stationary bike record-attempt, the Arizona Trail, his favourite of all, the Tour Divide (twice), and much more. Ryan was involved in various forms of charity work, was an author with RMB and regularly spoke to groups around North America about turning passion into purpose, something he mastered beautifully.

Ryan’s passion for cycling and outdoor adventure ultimately led to his founding of Bikepack Canada, which he hoped would boost bikepacking’s profile in Canada and bring together riders - new and seasoned - from across the country. Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2017, Ryan dedicated any energy he could spare to working on Bikepack Canada projects and writing his guidebook, Bikepacking in the Canadian Rockies.

Though Ryan is sorely missed, we are forever grateful for the legacy he has left us.
