Bikepack Canada was started by adventure cyclist Ryan Correy, who passed away in April 2018 at just 35 years old. Ryan’s passion for cycling and outdoor adventure had led to his founding of Bikepack Canada in 2016, which he hoped would boost bikepacking’s profile in Canada and bring together riders - new and seasoned - from across the country. After Ryan’s death, I (Sarah, Ryan’s wife) decided to keep Bikepack Canada going, as both a tribute to Ryan and as part of my growing love and enjoyment of bikepacking. Several years later, the adventures I crave most are the ones that take place on the seat of a bike, whether it’s exploring the nooks and crannies of my Canadian Rockies backyard or taking off to more far flung destinations. Bikepacking, for me, is a way to slow down (regardless of pace) from the intensity of life, sink into a purposeful rhythm, and soak up the simple yet wondrous moments it offers up.
